Throughout the residency program, we learned about other healthcare disciplines and how they interrelate with nursing. Being a new nurse is exciting, yet challenging at times, and Ochsner Lafayette General helps you feel comfortable in your new role and assisted me with getting accustomed to the organization and the industry. Having this foreknowledge helped me to better utilize these departments when coordinating patient care.

-Lonique Williams

This program is the First in Louisiana to receive this distinction and one of only 106 in the nation as of July 22, 2019.  A list of current PTAP accredited programs can be found here

The 12-month program promotes confidence and excellence in care through evidence-based learning and work experiences which foster critical thinking and professional growth with an assigned mentor. The basis of the program is to implement evidence-based practices to ease nurses from the classroom setting and acclimate to the real-world medical field to promote quality, safety and reduce turnover rates.

The program offered a tremendous amount of support and helpful resources as a progressing novice nurse. My advice to new nurses considering the program would be to go for it with an open mind! I’m forever grateful for my experiences through the residency program. It was my base foundation to grow as a novice nurse into the exceptional one that I am today.

-Joi Thomas

More than 200 nurse residents have participated since its inception in January 2016.
