Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS) represents a highly respected group of cardiologists located mostly throughout South Louisiana and in some neighboring states. CIS typically contracts with hospital organizations to provide access to their cardiologists. Ochsner Lafayette General is able to leverage this relationship to improve cardiovascular and heart care at the  Heart & Vascular Center at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center and at satellite locations when they refer patients to CIS at Ochsner Lafayette General.

The Power of Partnership

Since 2011, Ochsner Lafayette General and Cardiovascular Institute of the South have pioneered a partnership to create a hospital-physician co-management agreement. The purpose of the agreement was to allow CIS cardiologists to be the decision makers in developing and achieving the high standards of heart and cardiovascular care Ochsner Lafayette General strives to achieve. Remaining authority for clinical, budgetary, technology and quality decision-making remains with the Ochsner Lafayette General administration.

Unrivaled Cardiovascular Care. Undeniable Results.

This mutually beneficial partnership has had tremendous results. It has fostered drastically better patient outcomes, stronger quality measures, shorter lengths of stay, reduced readmissions and higher patient satisfaction surveys for cardiology patients.

With the resources of Ochsner Lafayette General, CIS cardiologists have the ability to advance the frontiers of innovation and research, utilize superior technology and acquire top specialists covering all facets of heart and vascular medicine. In 2013, Ochsner Lafayette General extended access of its CIS cardiologists beyond Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center to include Ochsner University Hospital & Clinics, where quality heart health and cardiology services were in high demand.

The co-management model of CIS at Ochsner Lafayette General creates a culture of excellence that permeates the entire support staff of each organization, and Ochsner Lafayette General has molded other co-management agreements in other service lines across its system based on this exemplary model of success.
